About The Grill at Great Bridge
The Grill at Great Bridge was opened in 1993 by Gary and Ann Pyle. Gary was reared in Philadelphia, and Ann in South Boston, Virginia. Having met at Old Dominion University and lived and worked in the area in the 1970s, Gary and Ann strongly support the South Hampton Roads community.
The small, eclectic American diner is well known for its great food, loyal customer base, and cozy ambiance. Gary utilizes only the finest products, such as Smithfield’s private label thick slab bacon and freshly ground beef prepared by a local butcher. Ann makes all the desserts from scratch, created from her original recipes.
The Grill has amassed several regional and local awards. In 2007, the Restaurant won The Virginian Pilot taste test for its Philly Cheese Steak, and in 2010, it placed first runner-up for its Grilled Cheese Sandwich. Additionally, The Grill has won multiple “Best of Chesapeake” awards every year since 1996. These awards include Best Lunch, Breakfast, Best Burger, Best Dessert, Best Sandwich and Best Kept Secret.
The Grill’s reputation as a community “hot spot” has been further enhanced through reviews by The Virginian Pilot, Portfolio Weekly, Link Magazine, and Hampton Roads Magazine. The Restaurant has appeared on WVEC 13 News, WAVY 10 News, Fox 43 News, and CNN. The Grill is also highlighted in the murder mystery In The Dismal Swamp by Patrick Balerter.
